Sorcerer Software Users Newsletter Issue 0312 Welcome to our monthly newsletter, covering the latest updates, tips and user questions about our software programs. If you have an issue or question you would like to see addressed in a future newsletter, either by me or by your fellow users, please email me and I'll include it. But first, HAPPY NEW YEAR! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- December 31, 2003 CONTENTS: 1. A quick note... 2. The Abacus 3. Envelope Printer -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A quick note... It's been pretty hectic here during vacation. While we really enjoyed having the kids home from school (and even having the in-laws here for Christmas), our world was rocked on December 22nd by an earthquake measuring 6.5 on the Richter scale. You may have read about it or seen TV coverage. The epicenter of the earthquake was just off the coast at the town of San Simeon, best known as being the site of the Hearst Castle -- one of California's biggest tourist attractions. Unfortunately the quake resulted in hundreds of millions of dollars of damage to our area (San Luis Obispo county, California) and caused two deaths. The good news for us is that our home and our offices were only minimally affected. My wife lost a collectible piece of China, and one of my dogs ("Snickers", a great dane/dachsund mix) now dives under my desk every time the earth moves. At least she keeps my feet warm. (Snickers, not my wife.) The computers kept humming through it all except for losing power for about six hours. And new builds of some of our software products are now posted on our web sites. But this month's newsletter will be brief, limited to update notices of our two most prominent software programs. So we're in good shape for a robust 2004 and hope you are, too. And keep those cards and letters coming in. After all, I need help writing this every month! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Abacus http://www.TheAbacus.biz We made a minor change to the MS Word add-in version of the Abacus (version 3.0). If you count gross lines, you now can also count headers OR footers. Previously you had to count either both (headers and footers) or neither. This change was requested by a number of users, so we implemented it a few weeks ago. You can download this new build (031219) from our web site. No changes have been made to Abacus SE in the last month, so we have no new builds available for download. The current version 3.0 Abacus build is 031219. If you have an earlier build of version 3.0, you may want to download and upgrade to this build. This is the Word "add-in" version. To get your Abacus version and build number, start Abacus and click on the copyright message at the bottom of the main screen. The current Abacus SE build is 030914. If you have an earlier build of Abacus SE/4.0, you may want to download and upgrade to this build. This is the freestanding version. To get your build number, start Abacus and click on "Help- >About". -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Envelope Printer http://www.sorcerersoftware.com/envelope.htm Windows XP users have been noticing that the bottom edge of the Envelope Printer program's main screen is sometimes cut off. This has to do with the way Windows XP displays windows, using a border that is absent in previous versions of Windows. To accomodate these Windows XP users, we made a small change to the way that the Envelope Printer's screen is displayed when using Windows XP. You can download and install this new build from our web site if you are a Windows XP user and are having this problem. The current Envelope Printer build is 031126 of version 7.0. If you have an earlier build or version, you may want to download and upgrade to this build. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I know it's short, but as I said -- we had some other problems to deal with this month. I hope we're back on track next month with useful information as well as insights and comments from your fellow users.
